  • London Underground – Brought to You in Conjunction with Hugo Chavez

…Londoners on Income Support can get a card to allow travel on London buses and trams for half price. At the bottom of the [advertisement] are the proud logos of Mayor of London, Transport for London, and, incongruously, the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela.
I presume that this is the fruit of Hugo Chavez’ visit to London, when he cosied up to Mayor Ken, and offered cheap oil to the people of London.

  • Lying for Education

“Now I know some of you have already heard of me, but for the benefit of those who are unfamiliar, let me explain how I teach. Between today until the class right before finals, it is my intention to work into each of my lectures … one lie. Your job, as students, among other things, is to try and catch me in the Lie of the Day.” And thus began our ten-week course.

A novel – and seemingly powerful – way to teach your students critical thinking and analysis, from Overcoming Bias.

  • Black President = World’s Complete Annihalation

The Onion does it again with ‘Do We Really Want Another Black President After The Events Of Deep Impact?‘

Have we learned nothing from the tragic events of 1998, when, under the watch of President Morgan Freeman, this nation was plunged into chaos, and hundreds of millions of people died at the hands of the deadly Wolf-Beiderman space rock? The mere fact that this country is even considering putting another black man, Barack Obama, in the Oval Office proves that we have not.

  • Molecular Gastronomy and Unboiling an Egg

After recently rediscovering Heston Blumenthal I’ve been reading a lot about molecular gastronomy and, as such, Hervé This and Nicholas Kurti – the grandfathers of molecular gastronomy and Blumenthal’s inspiration.

Now it appears Hervé This has unboiled an egg.

  • Obsolete Skills – Talking Face-to-Face

Scobleizer recently asked people to come up with a list of obsolete skills. Someone duly registered ObsoleteSkills.com, created a wiki, and put up a huge A-Z list:

    • Cranking up or down a car window
    • Inserting a game cartridge at just the right angle to make it work
    • Loading film into a 35mm camera

  • Owen Wilson – Life Imitating Art

‘The Suicide of Genius: Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson in Life and Art‘ is an article pointing out the similarities between the troubling events in Owen Wilson’s troubled life and his on-screen roles in Anderson’s films.

Owen Wilson, the eponymous free spirit and troubled hero of Wes Anderson’s films, has struggled with what appears to be typical celebrity depression. According to gossip magazines and the industry of celebrity buzz, the blond Wilson brother is recovering from not just another fictional blunder, but a real-life suicide attempt. In this sense, our image of Owen Wilson has tangled itself with pop psychological discourse and celebrity persona: the man behind the characters has become increasingly enmeshed with his emerging popular fiction.
